Elder Care Services - Companion Care is one of our six key home care services designed to support your individual home care needs.
Companion Care
Companion Care focuses on assisting in household tasks so that the elder can do most of them him/herself. This fosters independence.
Elder Care Services - Companion Care
All Connected Home Care non-medical elder care services are supervised by nurses. Companion Care provides an older person with social interaction and assistance with household tasks, but usually the senior completes the tasks on his or her own. In Home Elder Caregivers are good options for elders who are motivated to remain as independent in their own homes as possible, especially if they can perform many or all tasks with moderate assistance or supervision.
For example, suppose the elder enjoys cooking. Perhaps she might need some help remembering all the tasks, or maybe needs prompting to insure that the burners are turned off. An elder caregiver is an excellent option, because she can provide company, friendship, and assistance. The Companion can also help as a senior citizen completes other household tasks like laundry or changing bed linens or cleaning.
Elder Care Services - Companion Care & Socialization
In addition to basic task completion, one objective of companion care is to provide social stimulation. Caregivers are instructed to do all that is necessary, but no more, prompting the elder to complete the task and build confidence. The relationship between the aide and the elder is very important, and aides are instructed to seek ways to draw out the elder's interests. The social stimulation can be vital in the elder’s life - especially if that has become rare for someone who lives alone.

& Transportation
Elder caregivers also sometimes can help with local errands like grocery trips or even doctor’s appointments. Clients arrange these services in advance, with written authorizations. For insurance reasons, senior in home companions cannot ever ride as a passenger while the elder drives. However, an elder home caregiver can drive the client on errand in the senior’s car or in the elder caregiver’s car. All drivers undergo proper background checks. Our agency's insurance covers all authorized drives, and we always have proper license and registration on file before we authorize any transportation services.
Elder Care Services - Companion Care Limits
Elder companion care is not appropriate in all situations, however. If an elder caregiver is needed for more than simple assistance, a higher level of care is appropriate. Elder homemakers or others can attend and actually perform services that the elder is unable to complete, or simply prefers not to. Certainly Companion Care would not be appropriate if the elder needs personal care.
