Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Burlington, encompasses an ambulatory care center serving more than 3,000 patients each day and a 317-bed hospital. Lahey Medical Center, Peabody, serves more than 800 outpatients each day and includes a 10-bed hospital. Both feature 24-hour emergency departments, and an American College of Surgeons verified Level II Trauma Center is based at the Burlington facility.

The mission of the Council on Aging (COA) is to provide advocacy and support services to help Arlington elders live dignified and independent lives. The Council's primary responsibilities are to design, promote, and implement services to address the identified needs of the community's elder population and to coordinate existing services in the community. The COA works in concert with public and private agencies and providers in the area, and with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs.

The Arlington Housing Authority provides subsidized housing for elderly, low-income families, and disabled persons. Both housing project models and subsidized apartment models are available. The Housing Authority does not provide emergency shelter. A waiting list usually exists for subsidized housing.

SNAP offers nutrition assistance to millions of eligible, low-income individuals and families and provides economic benefits to communities. SNAP is the largest program in the domestic hunger safety net. The Food and Nutrition Service works with State agencies, nutrition educators, and neighborhood and faith-based organizations to ensure that those eligible for nutrition assistance can make informed decisions about applying for the program and can access benefits. FNS also works with State partners and the retail community to improve program administration and ensure program integrity.

Minuteman Senior Services' meal sites serve hot, nutritionally balanced meals in a congenial atmosphere. Suggested donation is $2.00. Transportation available. Reservations should be made one day in advance.

THE RIDE paratransit service provides door-to door, shared-ride transportation to eligible people who cannot use fixed-route transit (bus, subway, trolley) all or some of the time because of a physical, cognitive or mental disability. THE RIDE is operated by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) in compliance with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Accessible vehicles are used to serve persons with disabilities, including those who use wheelchairs and scooters. Requests for preferred type vehicles will not be honored. THE RIDE operates 365 days a year generally from 5 AM - 1 AM in fifty-eight (58) cities and towns. For RIDE trips with origin and destination within 3/4 mile of fixed-route service that operates outside of these hours, or in other municipalities within 3/4 miles of MBTA bus service, extended RIDE service is available. The West Area also includes small portions of Billerica and Wellesley that are within 3/4 miles of MBTA bus service. VTS also serves trips to/from the border communities of Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Melrose, Needham, Reading, Stoneham, and Wilmington, as long as one end of the trip is located within one of the non-core area communities listed above.

The Arlington Senior Association is a private not-for-profit organization that provides the travel and social activities through the Arlington Multipurpose Senior Center. Also in the Senior Center is the Minuteman Senior Services "Eating Together" Meal site that provides nutritional hot lunches Monday through Friday, and prepares Meals-on-Wheels for home delivery.

The Goddard House name has been serving the needs of older adults in the Boston area since 1849 when it opened the first private, non-profit home for elders in Massachusetts. A not-for-profit organization since its founding, Goddard House owns and operates Goddard House Assisted Living at 165 Chestnut Street, Brookline, MA 02445.
