The Council on Aging transportation dept. offers rides for medical purposes to Belmont and surrounding areas, and will also offer rides for social purposes (i.e. hairdressers, local shopping) on an as needed basis, subject to availability. Medical rides supersede all others. Suggested donation for a ride from the Council-On-Aging for any purpose is $2.00 dollars each way.

THE RIDE paratransit service provides door-to door, shared-ride transportation to eligible people who cannot use fixed-route transit (bus, subway, trolley) all or some of the time because of a physical, cognitive or mental disability. THE RIDE is operated by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) in compliance with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Accessible vehicles are used to serve persons with disabilities, including those who use wheelchairs and scooters. Requests for preferred type vehicles will not be honored. THE RIDE operates 365 days a year generally from 5 AM - 1 AM in fifty-eight (58) cities and towns. For RIDE trips with origin and destination within 3/4 mile of fixed-route service that operates outside of these hours, or in other municipalities within 3/4 miles of MBTA bus service, extended RIDE service is available. The West Area also includes small portions of Billerica and Wellesley that are within 3/4 miles of MBTA bus service. VTS also serves trips to/from the border communities of Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Melrose, Needham, Reading, Stoneham, and Wilmington, as long as one end of the trip is located within one of the non-core area communities listed above.

In order to guarantee we will have enough meals for everyone, you MUST register for lunch by 11:30 a.m. the day before a meal (that means by 11:30 on Friday for a Monday meal and by 11:30 the day before a holiday closing for a meal after the holiday). The food is ordered in advance. Meals are open to anyone 60 or older and there are no income restrictions. The suggested donation is $1.75, but please give more if you can.
